Gerard van den Berg is a designer who has earned his spurs internationally. In addition to his design office he runs a production company called Label, which enables him to maintain a high profile on the market. Label is a fast-growing enterprise which also underscores the succes of his designs. However, in order to grow, good designs are not enough; other aspects are essential. Quality is one aspect which Label considers of paramount importance. In creating a good end product, Label sets itself and its suppliers high demands. Helped by automatisation, these quality demands exact a reliable and stable organisation comprising supply, production and end control. Since Label rigorously monitors these facts it is able to give its frames a long-term guarantee. Since all Gerard's designs generate Kaba from a basic philosophy, fabrics and leather must also radiate a certain degree of purity. The method of upholstery has to be considered as well because an important feature of the LABEL design is the loose cover. Fabric Covered models are fastened underneath with Velcro, while those in leather are stapled together; the leather is submitted to greater tension. The loose cover acts as a sort of coat as it were, encasing the inner frame. The creased look that develops epitomises a kind of nonchalance, which is an integral characteristic of Label furniture. But of course throughout the various stages, the quality demands set by Label and its designer Gerard van den Berg are adhered to at all times.
